La Colmena Panaderia #2

La Colmena, this is where the honey is at!
(It means beehive in spanish)

My little local panderia & I'm happy that it's right down the street. I probably hit this place up at least 2 times a week for fresh, warm pan dulce & bolillos. You can get 3 bolillos for a dollar. Take those home, toast a bolillo for a bit & make yourself a bomb ass torta sandwich. With beans & egg or de jamon & fresh avocado with jalapeños. The hell with it, just eat the bolillo by itself. Bolillo in one hand & a canned shasta cola in the other. They are THAT good. You can also have your pan dulce with un cafecito or a Mexican hot chocolate de Ibarra.

As a kid, my mom would always buy a big bag of pan dulce on the weekends. An assortment of sweet bread but only ONE puerquito (gingerbread type, shaped like a little pig) would be in the bag. We would all fight over it. Sometimes I had to front like that wasn't the one I was going to chose just so another family member could enjoy the puerquito. Now that I look back, I wonder why mom wouldn't just buy 2 or 3 to avoid the bickering. I love mi mama!

La Colmena makes the best Mexican bread. They open in the wee hours of the morning & even when it's pouring outside, they'll get the sandbags to block out any rain that might seep in from the flooding of the streets. There's only street parking & service is always friendly.
