Pops Chicken

I first ate at Pop's Chicken back when they were posted up on Lankershim, a teeny tiny shack right behind Jimmy's Burgers.

"I'll take the whole chicken with 2 sides combo, please."
"MAMA, un pollo!!!!!"

That's when I knew it was a family joint. The type of family joint that has the owners kids doing their homework on one of the tables when you go in & helping out at closing time. The type of family joint where their kids won't know what it's like to be a bum during summer vacations because they will always be busy helping at the family restaurant but will comprehend & understand the amount of sacrifice, hard work & dedication it takes to have something to call your own.

It wasn't until the misfortune of the original location burning down did I realize Pop's Chicken had a big following. A cult like following almost. Through the chisme on Yelp, I got word that Pop's was back! You bet I was there on the grand re-opening at their new location on the corner of Saticoy & Tujunga.

The store front is Pops himself, bbq-ing chicken & ribs. You don't even need the address, just follow the smoke & smells of the delicious bbq. They also offer other mexican staples but stick to what they are famous for. Some sides you can pick from are nopales, potato salad, rice, beans & cole slaw. They provide handmade tortillas with your combo order. I believe they also cater which might be a good idea next time you're having a gathering.

Bigs up to the whole Pop's family on the come up & their comeback!

Your Homegirl,
Violy
